Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will set the strategy, goals, and objectives for the Engineering team in order to achieve aggressive product, business, and financial growth objectives. We are seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of enterprise software (specifically SaaS) environments, preferably developing analytics products utilizing Python or Java and related technologies. Strategic, technical vision, forward thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. This position is located full-time in Abidjan, Accra, Cotonou, Lagos or Manila.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for all aspects of the company’s engineering product development activities, the successful candidate will focus on the structuring and operation of the product development engineering function as a cohesive unit. This would include the conceptualization and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects:
- delivering product designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs.
- Build the team with talented individuals that fit technically and culturally.
- Codify the interview process so as to drive repeatability and apples to apples comparison.
- Retain key hires.
- Has the ability to prioritize and direct engineering schedule – balancing the creation of new functionality, immediate needs of existing customers, and augmentation and management of architecture and infrastructure.
- Has a comprehensive understanding of the market and the technical implementation so as to be able to speak to feasibility, lift, opportunity, etc. of company direction and pivots.
- Drives and augments the engineering process with primary goals of predictability, stability, and visibility.
- Experienced at delivering cloud-based software at scale.
- Establishes a culture of quality where verification and validation occurs at every step.
- Drive an architecture that facilitates quality and a process that enforces it.
- Establishes framework for making impactful technical decisions.
- Empowers engineers to innovate while providing technical expertise/targeted questions to make a decision that is best for the business.
- Must have a willingness to make educated but potentially controversial decisions should the framework yield a stalemate.
- Ensures engineers understands business direction and how individual work facilitates end goals.
- Ensures company at large understands the needs of engineering.
- Clearly specifies when technical debt must be addressed or infrastructure added and the cost of doing or not doing so.
- Understands the goals of engineers and set them on a path towards achievement. 
- Leverages intrinsic motivation to further both the individual and the business.
